CONTRIBUTIONS

 

     From light-hearted children’s books to more serious young adult novels, Anderson has been recognized for her contributions with a copious amount of awards and honors. Her work includes Speak, Catalyst, and Wintergirls, just to name a few. In 2008, she received the ALAN Award (Assembly on Literature for Adolescents) for her “outstanding contributions to the field of adolescent literature.” (“Laurie”) The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) recognizes Anderson’s young adult novels Catalyst, Fever 1793, and Speak with the 2009 Margaret A. Edwards Award, proclaiming Anderson as “…an iconic and classic storyteller who in her character development has created for teens a body of work that continues to be widely read and cherished by a diverse audience.” Her books such as Speak and Catalyst have also been National Book Award Finalists, Printz Honor books, ALA Best Book for Young Adult, and New York Times bestsellers. Speak has even been adapted into a film.
